How to Catch Gucci’s Disco-Fever

Gucci’s Spring 2011 Collection was a celebration of the decade that the name was built-on.  I could see any number of these chic 70’s inspired pieces worn by Jerry Hall or Bianca Jaeger at the height of the Studio 54 era.  What makes this line so exciting is that it really captures the feel of that time. They’ve honored the architecture/lines of the original designs so completely, that it at once transports you back and moves you forward.

That is a true “Fashion-Feat.”  Many Design-Houses have gone 70’s-chic with their presentation, and some have succeeded in offering fabulous updated versions of this trend (one of my faves – Spring 2011 Marc Jacobs).  However, Gucci has gone a step beyond, in that they have tried to bring the 70’s Back-to-Life with this sensuous trip down memory-lane.  These clothes would make any girl feel like a Disco-Queen (in the best possible way).

So if we are going to take a page out of the “Gucci 70’s-Handbook” this Spring/Summer – then the name of the game is Authenticity.  When you’re wearing this trend you have to believe it yourself. Make the effort to complete the whole look, and I think you’ll take it to a new level of stylish-chic.   And here’s a few clues to make it fabulous/believable…

  • When mixing shiny fabrics – it’s best to pick one highlight-color for your accessories.  Gold (above) is the best choice to pull this trend together.
  • Go with 2-3 great color-combos – Mixing flat/shiny fabrics, with absolutely no prints or embellishments.
  • 70’s is all about the High-Waist – just like your jeans, find a fabulous silk-skirt that can be belted above the waist (totally chic).
  • Take advantage of dirty hair – and wear your hair slicked back in a low Pony-tail or 70’s inspired French Braids.
  • Go with bold lips/bold eyelashes, but keep the eyeshadow light with iridescent shadows (beige, gold, champagne) – Check-out Gucci’s Beauty-Drones.
