Yohji Yamamoto’s Punk has Spunk
Posted Jun 02, 2011
Continuing down the Punk-Path, we find Yohji Yamamoto’s Fall 2011 RTW Collection to be a full-on Punk-Explosion. Done with a bit of tongue-in-cheek, he infused color & fun into a trend that can often take itself too seriously.
I find the crazy juxtaposition of rebel-punk, and sky-high “Cotton-Candy” updos (done in Crayola-Chic), to be utterly delicious. And while at first glance this could be a show that we might dismiss as just another avant-garde extravaganza, I see many hidden gems in Yamamoto’s ensembles. The long-sheer dresses are exquisite works of art – that could be worn alone, over leggings, or with thigh-high Cavalier Boots – if you really wanted to bring-down-the-house.
The excitement of this kind of Punk-Influence, is found in the power of layering. With each pass, we see a new “Sartorial-Surprise” revealed, and that is where we can envision the commercial potential of this super-hot trend.
