Julie Ordon lets the letters sink into her skin in “Tattooed Essence” by Satoshi Saikusa for S MODA El País, November 2017. This evocative editorial embraces the simple elegance of hand drawn body art. Seductive symbols stand for some of Fashion’s most distinguished Houses, while markings of modern design are delicately written over the curves of her skin. Eyes are left naked and lips scream in red, as Maria Olsson emphasizes the angles of her angelic features. Standing in front of a background as dark as night, a spotlight illuminates the design initials. Raw and ready to go her naked body reflects a high/low glow. These power haus titles are projected in poetic form, as Olsson celebrates the supple nature of perfect skin. Using one feature to set the stage her mouth erupts in a riotous rage.
Following from behind… we uncover the divine… as high design climbs up the spine. Louis Vuitton ~ LV ~ lets us luxuriate in the beauty of the back, as black letters get larger as they go from north to south. The most iconic emblem of exotic style ~ Chanel ~ stands as a symbol of prosperity and social standing. This house has been a relevant name in the industry since early 1900’s. The founder and namesake, Coco Chanel, she is a fiery female that set the standard for simple elegance. Steeped in tradition, these iconic backward C’s changed the industry. Drawn on the wrist like a bracelet, Ordon holds her hand up covering half of her face. Dior goes in for the kill with a huge ~ D ~ defining Divine on the backside, watching in awe as letters curve up her spine. So sexually intoxicating, this image will have you forgetting what it is you’re viewing. For me, Dior has always been Decadence (with a twist).
When your mind gets into the Artistry of Excess, you have entered into the world ot YSL. Yves Saint Laurent doesn’t need to talk a big game, for it’s unique qualities are built into the brand. Beyond our imagination, three giant letters are marked down the side of her neck. Tattoo simulation soars with one of the most overt applications done this season. Each branded-app shows a unique flair, from the wrist wearing wonder of Chanel to the sneaky peaking of Carolina Herrera. And then things get real… with the combined spine tingling sexiness of Louis Vuitton, the cheeky surprise of YSL and the back bending beauty of Dior. This is Drama Defined. By baring the names of these much beloved designers, it’s clear, these aren’t merely your run of the mill cosmetic companies. They are the Houses that have made our makeup memories rich with definition, they are ~ The Giants of Industry.
