Kate Middleton Stuns in Sara Burton Gown
Posted Apr 29, 2011
Well it’s official, the best kept secret in modern history has been revealed, Kate Middleton went with Sara Burton. The new Creative Director of Alexander Mcqueen had been considered and early contender for the “Royal Design”, but with absolutely no details about the (now infamous) dress leaking – we were as surprised as William.
And I will echo the sentiments of the masses – It was worth the wait!!! This Wedding Gown was so uniquely perfect for Kate, and was truly the ideal choice to welcome in a New Era for the Monarchy. This dress was deceptively simple. The gorgeous Ivory Lace & Satin came together in perfect harmony, celebrating the traditional and modern in what has become The Kate and William Way.
What truly made the Wedding Gown spectacular was it’s other-worldy fit. Mcqueen has long been known to use corsets, and as we see, the subtle corseting added the kind of line/shape befitting a Princess. The delicate detailing of the gorgeous v-line neck exposed just the right amount of decollete, and gave a youthful edge to the sumptuous full-sleeve lace top.
The 8′ train provided the needed pomp-pageantry for a proper Royal Wedding Gown, but wasn’t overwhelming. Kate was wearing this dress – it was not wearing her. The full ivory skirt was cut so beautifully, it seemed to fall in precision and justed danced as the Bride made her way down the aisle. This will make Sara Burton a house-hold name, and well it should. To be under this kind of scrutiny and pressure, and to be able to deliver something executed with such perfection, is miraculous.
The awe-inspiring Crown worn by the new Duchess of York, is known as the “Halo Crown” and was lent to Kate by the Queen herself. This gorgeous Cartier Crown has a fascinating history, and was given as a gift to the 18 year old – when she was just a Princess.
Kate’s Veil was understated and beautiful, falling down her back with such ease, and providing the perfect highlight for the decadence of the Crown. And the gorgeous earrings were a gift from her parents especially for this day.
While the entire look had a very Grace Kelly feel – it was all Kate.
