VMagazine “Transforms” Paris Hilton
Posted Jul 12, 2011
I will admit straight-off I usually don’t choose to highlight celebrities such as Paris Hilton. This isn’t the site where you are going to find all the latest on J-Lo, Paris Hilton or Snooki. I’m not interested in “The World According to the Terribly Vapid.” It is why I work so hard to hand-pick those who I feel are talented, creative individuals who’s goals reach beyond paparazzi pics, and a fragrance line.
But in this case I was impressed by the photography/styling of the images that accompanied the VMagazine article “The Business of Being Paris“, and felt I could get past my gag-reflex long enough to do a write-up. In the current Transformation-Issue of VMagazine, Daniele + lango have managed to do an impressive – Physical Transformation – on the reality celeb/heiress. No reflection on the writing, by I’m thoroughly uninterested in reading the regurgitated comments from this high-school drop-out, regaling us with stories about the harshness of public scrutiny and the burden of being a celebrity. She really is the poster-girl for the do-nothing Reality Generation.
So while I’m clearly not a huge Paris Hilton fan, I do find these photographs to be an interesting transformation. With the modern-twist on the 60’s vibe, I think they’ve managed to bring a kind of dark under-current of sadness and vulnerability to the picture. And that is what elevates her attractiveness. It’s not just the beautiful hair/makeup, it’s seeing an emotional level from Paris that we usually experience as void. Maybe some of this imagery will rub off, although, after watching 10 min. of her new show I seriously doubt it.
