A Style-Strategy for Building Your Fall LookBook
Posted Aug 07, 2011
This week’s issue of Net-a-Porter’s Online Magazine, is a one-stop spot for Style-Stalking this Fall’s most fabulous trends. Gathering the greatest looks off the Runway, they’ve done some serious heavy-lifting for us, and are offering up ensemble examples in the top-hottest style-categories for the Season.
This year is all about Style-Strategy. As we go about building our own personal Fall LookBook, we want to be able to identify the looks we are going for, so we can attempt to gather trends that are relevant and wearable. The first step is know what works, and what is meant to stay on the “Runway.”
I’m loving their interpretation of the “Masculine” and “Punk” trends (images via fashiongonerogue). Taking the “Men’s-Chic” look to another level and adding it to your wardrobe, is a potential Over-Kill, if taken too literal. The fabulous choice of a Tailored Tuxedo-Jacket (left) or Boyfriend-Blazer (below), is a perfect example of how to avoid that pit-fall.
When doing Fashion Gender-Bending, only wear 1 over-sized piece at a time. Mix “Boyfriend Jeans” with fitted tops/jackets, or a boxy “Male-Blazer”, with super-skinny jeans or leather pants. And as both the Punk/Masculine looks here prove, it’s always fun to play up the juxtaposition of the male/female aesthetic.
Take a page out of the Net-a-Porter book of styling, by adding layers of fabulous accessories/jewelry, and never be afraid to mix-it-up with fabric choices. The combination of the wickedly-chic sequins, leather, and suede will elevate the outfit, and allow for more options.
