Polka-Dot Power, Jean-Francois Campos Flair Magazine

In the context of Fashion-Forward style, the “Polka-Dot” is thought by many to be a dirty-word.  Italian Flair Magazine takes on this long standing design element, that has often been misrepresented in the world of High-Fashion.  In the Avant-Garde arena of cutting-edge concepts, and fast moving trends, it’s hard to reinvigorate a look that has been over-used/abused.  Polka-Dots/Circles never seem to be able to stand the test of time, or get past their costumey effect. Blame it on “Mini-Mouse”, but the last few decades have produced many a collection that have tried to take on the “Dot-Dilemma” only to find those pieces destined to be ignored and eventually forgotten.  So when I found myself staring at one amazing image after another, of Myf Sheperd wearing pieces by Marc Jacobs, Marni, YSL, Ferragamo, and Prada I was stunned.  This fashion-editorial “Black & White” by Jean-Francois Campos asks us to “Connect the Dots” for thrilling results.  This compelling collection of shots is a true breakthrough in the treatment of the Polka-Dot.  It’s a glorious mix of vintage/modern ensembles proving that nothing in the world of design can ever be truly “Counted-Out.”  In the hands of great artists, it was only a matter of time before a Masterful-Resurrection took place, causing all of us to reconsider what we think of this humble, innocuous shape.  And I’ll be the first to say that 2011 is definitely the “Year of the Dot.”  I’m Completely Obsessed With the tights/scarves/gloves/hats – these accessories would add a definitive 40’s vibe to any outfit, and bump up the Style-Quotient exponentially.  I’m very excited to see if I can emulate a few of these looks, and add a little Polka-Posh to my life.  Images by FashionGoneRogue.com.
