With the perfect choreography of universal-synchronicity Candice falls into shot after shot of modern-day “Marilyn-Moments”, allowing us to witness the “beautiful-collision” of time/space when all things are possible, inspiring me to bring together images that are generations apart. I was compelled to create visual-proof of the stunning similarities with these side-by-side layouts of The Icon & The Super-Model. When I first laid eyes on the new lookbook for Rag & Bone’s Fall 2011 Campaign, I felt like I was looking at Marilyn Monroe circa 1955. In a fashion-story that takes “Channeling” to the next level, I look at Candice Swanepoel and I see Marilyn Monroe. In these amazing shots taken on the exotic beaches of Bora Bora/Brazil, the comparisons are stunningly-eerie to the infamous photos taken of Marilyn on the Beaches of Malibu. While noone will ever be able to convey the vulnerability/natural sex-appeal of Marilyn Monroe, Candice brought her own brand of sweet-sensuality to the spread. With an endearing quality of openness, the undeniable links come from the freedom that both of these women are conveying. I have no idea if this campaign was meant to be an hommage to the great “Movie-Star”, but this is a true celebration of spirit/energy of the elusive actress from the inside-out. Candice isn’t mimicking the blond bomb-shell, in some other-worldly way, she has embodied the essence of the woman. To me this is a Fashion-Dream.
