Joseph Altuzarra Wins Coveted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Award
Posted Nov 17, 2011
Taking home the “Grand-Prize” at this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion-Fund Award was rising star Joseph Altuzarra. No surprise to me, I was singing Altuzarra’s praises after his Spring 2012 RTW Collection presented during Fashion Week. After working up the ranks as an intern with Marc Jacobs and an apprenticeship under Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy, he broke-out on his own and has been on the industry’s radar since. I fell hard for his Fall 2011 RTW Collection (below). I have been preaching for a few season’s now about my unwavering belief that Layering is the new “Fashion-Frontier.” Women love the Power-Layer, and designers that are in full-control of mastering this technique have our attention. There is nothing more flattering than cool layers all happening within the confines of flattering lines. It’s what all women secretly yearn for. While we like our “skin-tight” moments, we are most ourselves when we walk around comfortable/chic/sexy all at once. And the hottest designers right now, Haider Ackerman and (last year’s CFDA winner) Prabal Garung – are all at the for-front of this movement. So while I know this isn’t Altuzarra’s “Signature-Style”, he tends to change things up each season, I was so impressed it earned him my “Fashion-Vote”(and it looks like the CFDA board agreed).
