Bullett Magazine’ “Valley of the Dolls” Beauty with a Twist

What excites you about Fashion? If you’re like me your interest extends way beyond your closet, it’s the fundamentals of “Inspiration” that keep you Obsessed. I’ve been accused of being an “artistic-snob,” having a proclivity for “cult-publications” with a discernible under-ground/avant-garde vibe. Always choosing to highlight the lesser known magazines, instead of their “Glossy” counterparts. But just like the “Garage Bands” of the music industry, I see these edgy groups as the “Garage Magazines” of the fashion-world. “Groups” out there, in funky little spaces, with the freedom to create truly innovative works, without the constraints of “commercialism.” Out on the “cutting-edge,” experimenting with extremes, and fighting to flush out the obvious in an effort to unearth the unique. Not for the faint of heart, these “Style-Soldiers” are willing to stand on their own, often fighting the tides of popularity, to deliver messages of truth. “Messages” that don’t always come with pretty bows. Authentic pieces can be perceived as offensive, and often deemed indulgent or inappropriate. People don’t like to be uncomfortable, many prefer their beauty “Straight-Up,” I however, like mine “With a Twist.” Every morning I wake up with giddy anticipation at the possibility of what I might find. Conceptual pieces that give my “Words” life. These photographers are “Arbiters of Beauty,” continually pushing the envelope, and re-imaging their reality. A lesson we could all take to heart. So here’s my challenge to you… Go out there and be the “Garage Girl” in your own life. If we all adopt that “Garage-Mentality” we will be creators, not just consumers. Live your life like you’re looking to discover, not just waiting to follow. If we all attempt to create something authentic in our own lives – and exude that force to the world, that “Collective” purity might make the difference to a Generation. I am driven by the desire to create, and fueled by the passion of great creators…and so it goes. I am now and forever a “Garage Girl.” Images via FGR – Greta Ilieva’s “Valley of the Dolls” for Bullet Magazine.
