Codie Young leads the modern day grunge movement in ‘Us Against the World Mes Amies’ by Andreas Öhlund for Scandinavia S/S/A/W 2013. Echoing my earlier sentiments about the ever-changing power of the flower, Öhlund illustrates my point with his cool use of blooms scattered throughout the editorial. Far from a hyper-feminine floral effect, (stylist) Oscar Lange’s fresh choice of arrangements allows the beauty of the opposite pairing to flourish without a mocking undertone. Playing the part to perfection, Young’s ability to morph into any character gives this story serious street cred. Coming from Seattle the term “Grunge” holds a special meaning to me, so seeing it recreating with this kind of artistic edge is pure nostalgic pleasure.
