In a delicious mix of satire and style Cassandra Smith is electrifying in ‘Welcome to Los Angeles’ by Miguel Starcevich for Schön! Magazine #21 The Hot Issue. As someone who has always saved the sweetest for last, I’ve been sitting on this candy-colored coverstory for the right moment to celebrate it’s splendor and savor it’s richness. Playing with our senses, Smith uses the powers of parody and provocation in this orally fixated fashion food-fantasy. Covered in a thick layer of glitz and glamour, Luke Storey creates a super-sized styling event, with over-the-top accessories that stand in artful opposition to the sunny surroundings. Growing up on the West Coast my love of Fashion Art has always been strongly influenced by my connection with LA. A culture often greatly misunderstood, in it’s drive for money and celebrity the beauty of it’s diversity can get lost in the commitment to chaos. However, if you go deep enough, you’ll find that under it’s fashionable frosting lies a unique city flourishing with innovate artists and cutting-edge creators. So much of today’s visual stimulation comes in the form of redundant overplay, when an artist uses his platform to push the limits of his craft and our comfort, they have quite certainly done their job well – Bravo.
