‘Spring Rebellion’ by Bikramjit Bose for Harper’s Bazaar India, March 2016

Parisse Toledo, Mariia, Jess Mitchell, Bella Carlstrom, Dayana Erappa, Diva DhawanSarah Said-Smith & Tamara Moss hit the front lines in ‘Spring Rebellion’ by Bikramjit Bose for Harper’s Bazaar India, March 2016. Not afraid to dirty it up these soldiers of style are in-it to win-it. “Slipping” from one concept to another, this editorial didn’t happen on accident, it was crafted to announce to the world a change. Freedom is found in our fight to secure our rights. As we go from being hidden under piles of fabric, to being trotted out like trinkets for sale. The only absolute was that men decided what was to be show. The skin of a woman had long been thought of something that was for sale… something to be taken… a tool of temptation. In an ode to the era of Slip-dresses we celebrate the ferocity of female form. Rahul Vijay combines the softness of silk with the hardness of leather in styles by John Galliano, Missoni, Prabal Gurung & Roksanda Ilincic. Apocalyptic imagery brings to mind our fight for survival, as each vision is nothing more than a reaction to the surroundings. Sadness & strength collide in this fierce picture of poetic intention. While we can’t see anything outside the frame, our history allows us to imagine what’s taking place. Beauty untamed, Sandhya Shekar dares to break through the walls of propriety, and let these women fly. Makeup is used to project a feeling of being under fire, as dirt is smudged on every inch of the skin. An illusion of mastery mimics the mayhem, as dark eyes blend with an earthy appearance. Unencumbered by the addition of shadows we can see these women for who they are. And, while the brows are coiffed to perfection the features are quite comfortable being nude. Community caresses chaotic ringing, as naked faces stand as a symbol of strength. Fighting for our right to be heard, we see each shot like a step in the right direction. While this collection speaks to our fierceness in the field, the truth it held is our allegiance to one another.

LADY LIONESS – HEAR ME ROAR

I’m a fighter

I’m a runner

I’m a hero

I’m alone

I’m forever

I’m forgotten

In this place

I call my home

I’m a soldier

I’m a sinner

I’m a mother

I am none

I’m a winner

I’m a loser

To be all

is to be

One

poetic prose – tanyajo
