Fall never looked so fine with fiery images ignited by Luigi & Iango for Vogue Japan, September 2017. Anna Ewers, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly, Vittoria Ceretti & Doutzen Kroes go a ‘la natural for a high fashion line-up unlike we’ve seen. To speak one’s thoughts through the act of display with words falling off my lips like a mini Hemingway. To transfer styles to sound-waves… would allow the frequency of chic to hit the streets. Luigi & Iango use a unique compilation of hard and soft edges, creating a cohesive unit that defines the deepening of lines. Smooth curves are echoed in an arena of intent with a collusion of bold that’s artfully met. Overt actions are meant to be enjoyed. That’s to say, this season brings with it a sense of spirited adventure captured in a carnival of couture. Skin to Skin invites us in as the tembre of tone speaks to the quality of display. Fall fashion is all about the vision, and this year doesn’t disappoint. New shapes aren’t afraid to go big or go home ~ openly accentuating our need to exceed.

Anna Dello Russo transforms this editorial into a parade of posh looks. A line of fluidity floats through the page, reigning in chaos like a play on stage. Eclectic vision is met through the art of dissembling and the act of display. Every portrayal is sourced independently, with cohesive elements that keep the story connected. The ease to which your eyes travel over this piece, speaks to a level of unification. Many have made mention to the fact that the (models’) facial expressions are lacking, I take a different view. By creating a spectacle of style, I think the absence of such countenance was in fact an artistic choice. Let’s suspend reality for just a moment and see these Supernova models as ~ BeautyBots ~ otherworldly beings sent here to spread the love.

Poly drives us wild with black/white shots so compelling, you’ll find yourself lost. The words UNIFIED & POWER are written over the silken material, making them look like modern arm-bands, while the word LOVE is artfully placed across the front of her short skirt. Standing with her legs slightly parted, she leaves an impression of independence. Joan honors her playful side, from donning a decadent one-piece bejeweled catsuit (complete with cutoffs), to carrying a stuffed tiger crawling over her back. The ensembles thrill and excite while the accessories dare to delight. This is a story filled with fantasy of the fashionable kind. Throughout this piece we see a variety of similar shots so creatively contained, it’s hard not to get swept up in the conceptual construct. Taken by the potency of portrayal, it’s in the bleakness of beauty that truth stands out. A picture of poetic reflection… Natasha stands in quiet contemplation as her coat opens with her hand covering her nude breast.

Yumi Lee focuses her power on the orbital surround with Cat-Eyes that are purrrfectly pronounced. The message of this piece is a powerful one, while the strength of the statement becomes one of translation. Makeup techniques truly speak with soft, pillowy lips highlighted by dark, moody eyes. So, whether it’s Vittoria in a military inspired outfit or Stone as part of a patch-word posse, these looks represent our obsession with the orbital rounds. Luigi keeps his hair looking clean while his beachy waves devour the scene. Haute hats cover a cacophony of coiffure, all showcasing a series of sleek styles. Smalls lets loose with long, flowing locks that fall free under a big, black, wide-brimmed hat. Her Retro Revival hits a high note as Ewers redefines the Top Hat proper, while Doutzen bares out her Bold & Beautiful attitude.
